A piano visualizer turns a performance into falling notes over a keyboard, the format behind most piano videos on YouTube.
LumaKeys is one for the Mac: it takes a MIDI file, a recording from your keyboard, or a piano audio file, and exports the video up to 4K at 60 fps, widescreen or vertical.

Where the others look better: SeeMusic has 3D notes and puts real footage of your hands under the notes. Embers has more intense particles, on Windows. LumaKeys keeps the look clean, and is the one app on this list where the piece is learned, recorded and fixed before it is rendered. Mac only for now, a Windows version is in progress.

Most visualizers render 16:9 and leave the crop to you. LumaKeys renders 9:16 as its own layout: notes, keyboard and effects sized for the tall frame. Export the twenty seconds people would rewind for, and it is ready for TikTok, Reels or Shorts.

Is there a free piano visualizer for Mac?
Yes. Neothesia is free and open source, and renders video through a command-line tool. notefall runs in the browser and exports MP4. LumaKeys Free exports 1080p with a small watermark and includes the whole app with caps.
Can I make Rousseau-style piano videos on a Mac?

Do I need a MIDI file?
No. LumaKeys takes a MIDI file, a recording from your keyboard, or a piano audio file that it transcribes on your Mac. Most visualizers only take MIDI.
Does it work with my MIDI keyboard?
Any USB MIDI keyboard. Without one, your computer keys work for playing in, and any MIDI file plays as it is.
Which piano visualizer has the best visuals?

Can I use my own piano sound?
LumaKeys Pro plays through your own AU plugins, so the video sounds like your Vienna Synchron or Pianoteq, not a stock sample.
