Terms & License

These are the terms for using LumaKeys. The short version: you buy a license once, it’s yours, use it on your own Macs, don’t share the key, and don’t resell the app. The long version isn’t much longer.

Who you’re dealing with

LumaKeys is made by Ramon Melchior (RM Webdesign & AI), Auf dem Römer 8, 55765 Birkenfeld, Germany — full details in the Imprint. When you buy LumaKeys, the purchase itself is processed by Polar Software, Inc. as merchant of record: Polar is the seller for the transaction, handles payment, tax, and invoicing, and its checkout terms apply to the purchase. Your right to use LumaKeys comes from me under these terms.

Your license

When you buy LumaKeys Pro, you get a personal, non-exclusive license to install and use the app on up to 2 Macs that you own or primarily use. One-time payment, no subscription.

You can:

  • Use LumaKeys for anything you make with it — practice, recordings, videos, commercial content. What you create is 100% yours. No attribution needed.
  • Move your license to a new Mac (deactivate the old one first, or email me if a machine died on you).
  • Use the free version of LumaKeys without buying anything, under these same terms.

You can’t:

  • Share, publish, or resell your license key.
  • Redistribute the app or bundle it into another product.
  • Reverse-engineer or modify the app, except where the law expressly allows it (e.g. interoperability under EU law).

If a license key leaks or gets abused, I may deactivate it. If that ever happens to you by mistake, email me and we’ll fix it.

Updates

Your purchase includes every v1 update — new features, improvements, and fixes across all 1.x versions, at no extra cost. No subscription, no update fees.

If there’s ever a LumaKeys 2 — a major new version — it may be a separate paid upgrade. Your v1 license doesn’t expire when that happens: the app you bought keeps working, keys and all.

Refunds

There’s a 14-day money-back guarantee — details on the Refunds page. Nothing there or here limits your statutory rights.

Your data

The app runs locally on your Mac. It doesn’t send me your recordings, your MIDI files, or usage telemetry. The only network calls it makes: validating your license key with Polar, fetching the optional HQ piano samples (~700 MB) if you choose to download them, and checking for app updates. Details in the Privacy Policy.

Warranty and liability

No software is flawless, and I won’t pretend otherwise — but your statutory warranty rights for digital products under German law (§§ 327 ff. BGB) apply in full. These terms don’t touch them.

For everything beyond that: I’m liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body, or health, and under the Product Liability Act. For simple negligence, I’m liable only if I breach an essential contractual duty, and then only up to the damage that’s foreseeable and typical for a contract like this. Further liability is excluded. In plain terms: I stand behind the app where it matters, but a $99 tool can’t carry unlimited risk for indirect damages.

Third-party components

LumaKeys ships with open-source components and the Salamander piano samples; their licenses are acknowledged in the app.

The legal frame

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you’re a consumer, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence still apply — these terms never take those away.

If one part of these terms turns out to be invalid, the rest stays in force.
