What you can transcribe
A video file
MP4, MOV, M4V, WEBM or MKV. LumaKeys takes the audio out of the video, so a phone video of you playing works too.
Your microphone
Record straight into LumaKeys with your Mac's microphone, an audio interface, or your iPhone through Continuity. Listen back to the take, then transcribe it.
Up to 15 minutes per file or take. Use recordings you made yourself or have the rights to.

Open Transcribe
Click Transcribe in the sidebar of LumaKeys.

Choose a file or record a take
Drop in an audio or video file, or switch to Microphone and record. Give the piece a name and a composer, and start the transcription. It runs on your Mac and nothing is uploaded.

Play it, edit it, keep it
The piece is now in your library, with every note, its velocity and the sustain pedal. Learn it with falling notes, fix notes in the piano roll, or export it as MIDI or as a video.

Keep your improvisations
You played something good and only have a phone recording. Transcribe it, clean it up, and it's a piece you can learn again later.

No. Transcription runs on your Mac and works offline. Your recordings stay on your computer.
How many transcriptions are free?
5 on Free. With Pro they're unlimited. $69 launch price for a limited time, then $99.
What recordings work best?
Solo piano, recorded clean. Very dense passages with a lot of pedal can come out with a few extra or merged notes, and you can fix those in the piano roll. It's made for piano, so band mixes or vocals won't give you a useful result.
Can I transcribe a video?
Yes. Choose an MP4, MOV, M4V, WEBM or MKV file and LumaKeys transcribes its audio track.
Can I use my iPhone as the microphone?
Yes. With Continuity, your iPhone shows up on your Mac as a microphone. Pick it in the LumaKeys settings like any other input.
How long can a recording be?
Up to 15 minutes per file or take. Split longer recordings and transcribe them one by one.
Can I export the result as a MIDI file?
Yes. Export the MIDI to use anywhere else, or export a falling-notes video straight from LumaKeys.
